A few of my favorite things!

I've been seeing these posts every week for awhile now and finally decided to join in! Here are a few of my favorite things this Friday!

First up: theSkimm

TheSkimm is my favorite source for daily news snippets. I don't make the time to watch the news or read the paper so this is so helpful for keeping in the loop on world happenings! You can sign up to have it sent to your inbox here http://www.theskimm.com/

2: Sharpie Pens!

These are the BEST pens ever! I highly recommend every color and you can buy them here

3: Velvet Taco

If you live near one (Dallas, Fort Worth & coming soon- Chicago!) you probably already love it. But did you know about their to-go meals? You can get a rotisserie chicken, two of their amazing Elote style corn & 6 corn tortillas for $20 (and half priced on Mondays!). It's so delicious and such an easy dinner!

4. IF: Equip

I wrote about IF:Gathering here but they also have this awesome daily component called IF:Equip. It's a daily devotional sent directly to your inbox. Right now they are going through the book of Hebrews. Sign up here http://www.ifequip.com/

  Finally: HGTV

I love this channel, magazine, website- everything! If you don't watch Fixer Upper- shame on you! I see specials on the magazine all the time & got my year subscription for a steal! It's easy to read and has such great ideas.

What are some of your favorite things right now that I absolutely need to know about?

Show and Tell: Share your Love Story

I am linking up with Andrea over at Momfessionals today! I thought this was a fun topic and one that should definitely be documented on the blog. It all started back in 2008...

Mr. Neill and I met while studying abroad with the Baylor in Great Britain Program! We became friends while abroad, and when we got back to school we continued hanging out. I had just moved to a new apartment that happened to be right next door to my new friend ;) so we started seeing each other a lot! Right before spring break, we talked and decided to spend our week apart praying about our future. On March 15, 2009 we went on our first date and the rest is history :)

After I graduated in May 2010, I moved to Dallas and he stayed in Waco for a year to finish his Masters and work for an accounting firm so we dated long distance. We thought he would go to law school in Dallas but God had different plans :) I renewed a one-year lease on my apartment in Dallas about a month before he decided to go to law school at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX. So... more long distance!

After another year of long distance, I finally got a job in Lubbock and moved 10 minutes from my sweet boyfriend! Long distance was hard at times but overall was such a blessing to us. It allowed us to learn how to communicate well and it gave us the opportunity to be together while continuing to live our lives as two complete and independent adults. I wouldn't trade those years apart for anything! After living in Lubbock for 2 weeks...

We got engaged! He totally surprised me by proposing the day before my birthday! He had me in tears when my entire family, his family, and several of our best friends surprised me at an engagement party afterwards. I cannot tell you how fun it was to celebrate that moment with those closest to us. 10 months of planning, celebrating, and enjoying our season of engagement later & we got hitched!

Mr. Neill has been the greatest gift God ever gave me 6 years ago. I couldn't have asked for a better friend, partner, and leader of our family. He has taught me more about myself, strengthened my understanding of God & grace and encourages me to be the very best version of myself I could every be every.single.day. {And today is his 27th birthday so shout out to him! Love you!}

February 2015 Goals

Again, I repeat, life has been crazy! I did not pay much attention to my goals this month...

January Goals:

1. Read 2 books: I have almost finished two books... #fail

2. Walk Griffin at least once a week Maybe three times this whole month?

3. Craft something: A paper football chain & football cupcakes count, right? :)

4. Use our appliances Two months failed in a row!

5. Stock the freezer- Somewhat successful!

Now that we're almost half way through February, I'm only going to set a couple goals...

February Goals

1. Finish two books (ha!)

2. Walk Griffin 4 times this month

3. Finish decorating my office walls at work

One final goal for the YEAR:

Do one local Fort Worth thing a month.

We had fun in January- we actually did two local things!

We went to the amazing Impressionist exhibit at the Kimball Art Museum

And we went to the famous stock show & rodeo!

Can't wait to do something in February!

IF: Austin

Wow... I went and started working full time again and now it's been a month since my last post! Life is CRAZY and busy and exhausting- but good :)

I had the best weekend in Austin for this...

Y'all- I cannot say enough about IF: Gathering and my time in Austin worshipping & learning with 2,000 other women. From their website, this is what IF is all about:

WE EXIST TO GATHER, EQUIP AND UNLEASH THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN TO LIVE OUT THEIR PURPOSE.

You can clearly see why I am inspired by this thing!

I headed to Austin Friday afternoon and went straight to the conference in downtown Austin. I was a little late to the first session, but was happy to be flying solo so that I could sneak into an open spot a few rows from the stage :) They made dinner reservations at some local restaurants for us so I enjoyed a delicious meal with some new Canadian friends- awesome eh?! Thankfully my sweet college roommate lives in Austin and has a spare room so I got to enjoy a great night's sleep and see an old friend! She is a great hostess and it was such a treat to spend time with her!

I learned so much this weekend and was challenged in so many areas of my life. I am SO glad I listened to the Spirit's nudge to go and that I got to see three friends that I hadn't planned to see there! Such a blessing!

I highly suggest checking out their website https://ifgathering.com, their daily devotionals IF:Equip, and gathering 6 friends around the table for a couple of hours each month for IF:Table!

IF GOD IS REAL... NOW WHAT?

I'll be thinking about this a lot and what it looks like in my life. I can't wait to see how God uses my strength & courage this year!

Show and Tell: January 2015 Goals

I'm linking up with Andrea over at www.momfessionals.com every other Tuesday for a fun link-up called Show & Tell. Today is all about your resolutions and goals. I am going to stick with setting monthly goals in 2015 instead of big, yearlong goals. Let's see how well I did in December...

1. Read 2 books- I am happy to say I achieved this! See my entire 2014 book list here that included the two I read in December!
2. Plan our anniversary trip- I worked on this a little. I found a B&B to stay at but I didn't book it. I was really waiting to start work and see when would be best to take off. Thank goodness we still have plenty of time :)
3. Finish blogging about our Europe trip- DONE!
4. Finish our 2014 photo book- Also done! Yay!
5. Stock the freezer- Fail...
6. Drive around & look at Christmas lights! We sorta did this but not super intentionally... next year!
7. Use our appliances. Another fail...

January Goals:

1. Read 2 books

2. Walk Griffin at least once a week
once sounds so lame but it'll be a step up from the 0 he gets now...

3. Craft something
I used to craft all the time but never do anymore and I miss it.

4. Use our appliances
I'm going to give it another go this month

5. Stock the freezer
I really need to do this!

I'm going to start off the year slowly with only 5 goals this month. I just started a new job and I'm adjusting to us both working full time again.

2014 Book List

Found on countryliving.com via Pinterest

I love reading and every year since I graduated college, I set a goal for the number of books I want to try and read that year. This year my goal was 14 (since it was 2014 and all...) and I am thrilled that I actually exceeded that goal by two! I actually have three chapters left of another book so I almost read 17 books total! I have a lot of books on the docket that I want to read so I'm going to try and do 15 this year... we'll see!

Here's what I read this year and let me know if there's something I can't miss reading in 2015!

1. The Devil in the Junior League by Linda Francis Lee
This was a Christmas gift from a fellow Junior Leaguer and it was ridiculous and funny and I loved it! It takes place in a made up city in Texas that is very similar to a large city just east of where we live so that made it even better! I even bought another book by the same author that I somehow never got around to...

This book will rock your world. I highly recommend it and is probably one I need to re-read year after year.

3. Shaken (Heart of a Warrior) by Kariss Lynch
My friend wrote this incredible book that's the first in a three-part series and I loved it. It's about a girl that goes to Haiti following the earthquake and experiences the most amazing and heart breaking things you can imagine. I can't wait to read the second book that comes out this year!

4. The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks
I love Nicholas Sparks and I loved this book. The movie however was terrible. So read the book and skip the movie :)

5. Divergent (Divergent Trilogy, Book 1)
6. Insurgent (Divergent Trilogy, Book 2)
7. Allegiant (Divergent Trilogy, Book 3)
by Veronica Roth
I jumped on the Divergent bandwagon and never looked back! I mistakenly saw the Divergent movie first and then read the book, but I really enjoyed the series and the movie and I can't wait to see the other two films!

8. Decision Points by George W. Bush
We listened to this book on tape on a drive to and from Colorado this summer and it was really interesting. It doesn't matter what your political stance is or how good a job you think Bush did or did not do, you will enjoy this honest and informative story.

9. Seriously... I'm Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres
I got this book for $1 at a garage sale and I love Ellen so it was definitely worth the read. It's super easy to read and took me no time at all. I thought it was cute and funny and lighthearted.

10. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
A friend lent me this book for a beach trip and I could not put it down. This author is my new favorite and I have now read most of her books. They take place in Australia which I adore and they are all written so uniquely. Read this one asap!

11. The One & Only by Emily Giffin
My friend also lent me this one and I also could not put it down. I like the author and although it got mixed reviews I enjoyed it. It takes place right here in the metroplex and is pretty much all about football! I'll admit it was a little strange, but overall worth the read.

This one took me about a year to read but it was funny and inappropriate and I like Mindy! This is an easy read and if you don't mind a little crude humor you'll enjoy it.

13. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
LOVE this book & LOVE this movie! Go read it and go see it!

I read Melanie's blog religiously and have read both of her books which are both fabulous! This one is about marriage and it's cute, funny, truthful, and an absolute easy read. I can't wait to read her new book coming out this year!

15. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Another fabulous book by this author. This was so suspenseful and I could not put it down! Loved it!

16. Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty
Again, I really enjoyed this author's story. I will admit it was my least favorite of the 3 1/2 books of hers that I've read but I still really enjoyed it and thought it was worth a read. Her writing style is so unique!

Can't wait to start reading in 2015!
