Prague // Prag // Praha

Or however you want to say it :) Our time in Prague was brief and I am sad to report it wasn't our favorite city. I am so glad we got to go and our day there was great, but I am not sold I need to go back. If you've been before and saw or did something awesome we missed, leave a comment and let me know!

St. Vitus Cathedral

Things to do in Prague:

Prague Castle: The castle grounds offer a variety of things to see. My favorite thing was the beautiful St. Vitus Cathedral.

Charles Bridge: Connects Old Town and New Town and offers great views of the river.

Alfons Mucha's Slav Epic: Twenty enormous canvases depicting important events of Slavic history. This was one of the coolest things we saw and I highly recommend it. It is located at Veletržní Palace which is outside of the touristy area of Prague. We visited another floor of the museum as well, and saw the works of Monet, Rodin, Van Gogh & Picasso.

Where to Stay:

Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town: Great location a few blocks from the Old Town Square. Great price, large, clean room, and free breakfast.

Try Krust for a unique pastry (see picture above) located right next to another great restaurant recommendation Casserol.

We used Munich as our home base to explore the Bavarian region of Germany. Munich is a 2 hour train ride from Salzburg so I would highly recommend catching both on the same trip! We didn't do or see a lot in Munich & it definitely made it on our list of places to return one day.

We spent the afternoon of our first day there on a tour of the concentration camp Dachau. This was one of the most unique and memorable things I've ever done and I highly recommend it. You can take the U-bahn out to Dachau and tour it yourself, or you can go with a tour guide like us, which I am so thankful we did.

Our second day in Munich we ventured out to Neuschwanstein castle...! It's a 2 hour train ride from Munich and takes most of the day but is totally worth it! Take the train to the city of Fussen and make sure to book your ticket ahead of time!

Doe, a deer, a female deer

Salzburg, Austria is the home of Mozart & The Sound of Music and one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and we loved it! When you go, you MUST do a {not at all} cheesy Sound of Music tour and eat a piece of Austria's famous apfelstrudel (apple strudel) at every meal, even lunch :)

"I am sixteen going on seventeen!"

Zip lining on our sound of music tour was so fun!

Recognize this church? This is the actual church where Maria and Mr. Von Trapp were married!

Things to do in Salzburg:

-Hohensalzburg Fortress: The castle dominates the Salzburg skyline and has the best views. Touring it is not impressive, but overall it's worth it. We took the funicular to get to the top which you can purchase along with your ticket to the fortress.

-Mirabell Gardens: beautiful gardens, fun to walk through and free

-Mozart's Birthplace (Geburthaus): Really interesting self-tour of the place Mozart was born €10

-Hellbrunn Castle: On the outskirts of town and features trick fountains. We didn't actually visit the castle, but the Sound Of Music pavilion is located here (pictured above!).

-Sound of Music Tour: We did Bob's Special Tour (I know, I know) but honestly we loved it. We did the 1/2 day tour (4 hours) but I think the full day tour would be awesome too.

-Salzburg Festival: One of the main reasons people go to Salzburg... we were there on the very last weekend of it!

Bio Burger: If you're sick of Austrian/German food, stop here for a yummy burger & fries!

Cafe Tomeselli: A must stop place to sit, people watch, and indulge on some dessert.

Gasthaus zum Wilden Mann: Traditional Austrian food conveniently located a minute from Mozart's Birthplace. Very hearty and very delicious.

St. Paul's Stub'n Beer Garden: Order the Kasnock'n pasta dish for two and enjoy every last bite including the side salad which was truly memorable. Yummy- and not touristy at all!

Augustiner Braustubl: Please go here! This is a huge traditional beer garden and there is no experience like it. There is one beer option and you rinse out your own cup before being served. It was such a cool, local thing to do and it was totally worth the 15-minute walk along the river from the Old Town. There are a lot of food options here, but we indulged in my favorite... HUGE soft pretzels!

Remember- you can walk easily everywhere in Salzburg, including between the New Town and Old Town so wander down the cute little streets and enjoy!
